Agriculture and Tourism promote Andalusian food and beverages of differentiated quality at Fitur through Gusto del Sur

Gusto del Sur Gastronomic Experience at Fitur 2024.

Gusto del Sur is the quality brand that the Junta is making available to the sector to give a new boost to Andalusia's agri-food industry.

Andalusian food and beverages under the differentiated quality brand Gusto del Sur have been the protagonists of the Gastronomic Experience organized jointly by the Ministries of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development and Tourism, Culture and Sport at the International Tourism Fair (Fitur).

Through this showcooking, Gusto del Sur, Andalusia's agri-food quality brand, was presented, as well as Andalusia's own food and beverages: wines, oils and olives, Iberian ham and sausages, fruits and vegetables, canned fish and a variety of pastries.

The showcooking Gusto del Sur has been attended by the deputy director of Industries, Innovation and Agrifood Chain, Pedro Cerezuela. In addition, there have been representatives of the agri-food sector of Andalusia as the general secretary of the IGP Mojama de Barbate and Isla Cristina, Manuel Becerra, the general secretary of the IGP Aceite de Jaén, Miguel Soto and businesswoman Ana Moreno, of the ETG Tortas de Aceite de Castilleja de la Cuesta, among others.

The activity, which was attended by communicators and professionals linked to the tourism and gastronomic sector, was presented by the communicator and chef Celeste García de la Banda and began with the screening of the video Gusto del Sur and a brief explanation of the brand.

During the showcooking, sommelier Rafael Bellido explained the characteristics of the different Andalusian wines, starting with Manzanilla Pasada en Rama from the Manzanilla-Sanlúcar de Barrameda PDO. For his part, the general secretary of the Los Pedroches PDO, Juan Luis Ortiz, highlighted the characteristics of the Iberian ham from the Los Pedroches PDO[1] and the Jabugo PDO. This was followed by a tasting of six of Andalusia's 12 PDO oils: Priego de Córdoba, Baena, Lucena, Sierra de Segura, Sierra de Cazorla and Sierra Mágina.

During the showcooking , three savory tapas and a sweet one prepared by the chef Juan Carlos García, from the Vandelvira restaurant in Baeza (Jaén), recently awarded with a Michelin star, were offered to the attendees.

The tapas featured the IGP[2] Mojama de Barbate, the IGP Aceite de Jaén and the ETG[3] Tortas de Aceite de Castilleja de la Cuesta. They have been paired with fortified wines of PDO Manzanilla-Sanlúcar de Barrameda, Jerez-Xérès-Sherry and Montilla-Moriles, as well as with the orange wine IGP Condado de Huelva.

The showcooking has had the collaboration of the Andalusian Conference of Designations of Origin and Protected Geographical Indications (CADO), Herpac and Inés Rosales.

Gusto del Sur can be used by products under the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO), Protected Geographical Indications (PGI), Special Traditional Guaranteed (TSG), artisan products, organic and integrated production products, products of recognized private protocols, among others. Entrepreneurs authorized to use the mark will be able to use it on their packaging, thus adding value to their products and facilitating the consumer's purchasing decision.

In the first four months of the brand, more than 50 companies and 145 products from all sectors and subsectors of activity have already joined, which shows the great reception by the Andalusian agri-food sector.

With the launch of the quality brand Gusto del Sur, the Junta de Andalucía, through the Consejería de Agricultura, Pesca, Agua y Desarrollo Rural, visualizes its firm commitment to support and strengthen one of the most dynamic sectors of the Andalusian economy.
